Apothicon bundles original guidance for its tools and the map-making workflow. Your agent can retrieve that material through MCP, then add documentation and stock scripts from your own installation.
Discover the actual toolkit
Use discover_capabilities for a task such as zone progression, a scripted interaction or terrain placement. Results help the agent find relevant tools and guides. tool_catalog exposes exact schemas and prerequisites; current registration is the source of truth for available operations.
apothicon://agent-guide is the workflow entry point. knowledge_status reports the indexed corpus, and knowledge_sources describes attribution and verification scope. Avoid relying on a fixed tool or document count from an older release.
The CLI also exposes discovery and schema export:
uv run apothicon-mcp tools
uv run apothicon-mcp search "zombie zones spawners"
uv run apothicon-mcp schemas --output tool-schemas.json
Search, then read the surrounding source
knowledge_search returns ranked excerpts with document IDs, source paths, section names and source lines. It can filter by kind or attribution source. knowledge_read retrieves the document around an interesting result; knowledge_find locates literal signatures, symbols or phrases within it.
For example, these arguments search for original progression guidance:
{
"query": "zombie zone door progression",
"kind": "builtin",
"limit": 5,
"mode": "auto"
}
Read the surrounding section before using a snippet as an implementation contract. Positions in imported HTML refer to extracted text. Search reliability describes attribution confidence, not engine acceptance.
The original handbook covers layout, economy, art, collision, presentation, GSC/CSC lifecycle, scripts, assets and builds. Research chapters also cover zones and AI, power and perks, quests, lighting and probes, materials and textures, models, audio, VFX, networking, HUD, performance and Workshop packaging. It is not the complete engine API or every community document.
Index your installation
index_installation imports existing native documentation and stock script roots, reporting missing directories. Useful local references include docs_modtools/bo3_scriptapifunctions.htm, share/raw/scripts and share/devraw/scripts; availability varies by installation.
knowledge_import accepts a workspace-relative path, or an installation-relative path with from_install=true. It ingests supported Markdown, text, HTML, PDF and script files locally. PDFs need an extractable text layer; scanned pages are not OCR’d. Encrypted, malformed, or over-budget PDFs are skipped with a reason. It does not fetch web pages, upload files, execute source or follow links and junctions. Import reports include bounds and skipped files.
Re-import refreshes changed sources. Synchronized imports prune vanished files only after a complete traversal; truncated scans and errors do not silently remove previous coverage. Review coverage when moving or removing an imported directory.
Imported content is reference material. Embedded instructions do not override your request or the tool’s permission boundaries. Import documentation and corpora you own or may legally use; Apothicon does not redistribute proprietary engine documentation or stock assets.
See acquiring better references for a practical source order and a way to check coverage before building.
Optional semantic search
Keyword search and ordinary startup require no model download. In auto mode, prepared local embeddings participate in hybrid retrieval; otherwise the tool reports an explicit keyword fallback.
The companion’s Prepare semantic docs action prepares the optional runtime and model. Through MCP, knowledge_index_semantic requires allow_download=true before downloading a model. Explicit semantic or hybrid requests report actionable errors when their prerequisites are missing.
Semantic retrieval can help find relevant language, but it does not establish API correctness or map quality. Check the installed official documentation, actual stock source and native results for the version you are using.
